Toast is your register and your reporting is part of it. CoreTAP reads that same data and does the thing reporting is not built to do. Keep the POS. Add the part it does not cover.
The short version. Toast's reporting shows sales, product mix and labor cost, and it does that well. But reporting is a feature of the register rather than a system for running the floor.
CoreTAP is not a point of sale and not a report. It connects to Toast and turns the data Toast already produces into work with an owner. This page is not an argument for replacing anything.
Toast's own framing is the clearest statement of the gap. Its analytics give detailed insight into sales, product mix and labor costs, allowing restaurant owners and managers to make informed decisions.
That last clause is the whole thing. The decision is yours, and it arrives after service, in a format you have to sit down with. CoreTAP reads the same transaction data, interprets it in plain language, and hands a manager the step while the shift is still running.
| CoreTAP | Toast reporting | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Real time bar execution intelligence | POS native reporting and analytics |
| Primary job | Tell you what to do next, during the shift | Report what sold and what it cost |
| What you hold at the end | An action with an owner, a deadline and a tracked status | Sales, product mix and labor reports |
| Who does the interpreting | CoreTAP | You |
| Names the person and the product | Yes | Reports by product and by employee |
| Connects training to findings | Yes, through LearnTAP | No |
| Relationship | Connects to your POS | Is your POS |
| Extra cost to you | A separate subscription | Already included in what you pay |

If what you want is to see sales trends, product mix and labor by daypart, those reports are already there, require no extra integration, and cost nothing beyond what you are paying. For a quick read on the numbers they do the job, and for a single site with an owner behind the bar every night they may be genuinely sufficient.
Worth being aware of as you grow: inventory and the more advanced reporting sit on paid upgrades, and add on costs stack up alongside payment processing. That is a normal POS pricing model rather than a criticism, but it belongs in the comparison.
Toast tells you what happened. CoreTAP changes what happens next, from the same data.
An employee report will show you that a server's void rate is higher than the team's. It will not tell you what that is costing per week, that it has now happened three weeks running, which manager should handle it, or whether the conversation actually took place. CoreTAP produces that as a tracked item with a deadline and a written resolution, ordered by estimated impact so the queue gets worked in the order that pays.
Where the cause turns out to be a skill gap rather than a staffing one, LearnTAP turns it into specific training rather than a general reminder. One Houston group cut turnover by 73 percent working that way.
This is not really an either or. Use Toast reporting to see the numbers. Add CoreTAP to act on them, by name, in real time. If your reports are already telling you something is wrong and the problem is that nothing changes afterwards, that is the gap this fills.
If you are also weighing a dedicated inventory tool, see CoreTAP vs Wisk.ai or CoreTAP vs Backbar. For the back office, CoreTAP vs MarginEdge. The full argument is at why CoreTAP.
No, and it is not meant to. CoreTAP connects to the point of sale you already run and works from the data it already produces. There is no register swap, no new terminals and no retraining the floor on hardware.
Reports tell you what happened. CoreTAP reads the same data and produces the next step: which person, which product, what it is worth, which manager owns it, and by when.
CoreTAP connects to the point of sale rather than replacing it. Tell us what you run and we will confirm the connection before you commit to anything.
Toast shows you the data. CoreTAP hands a manager the action and tracks whether it got done.
Nothing changes about your register. Bring two weeks of trading and we will read it back to you differently.
